picture of Clarendon
Set back in the part of Pimlico somewhat less trodden, the Clarendon is a relatively upmarket pub in an area of contrasting fortunes. As such, it's very much a haunt of the younger, wealthier locals and we found it a generally decent - if uninspiring - spot for a couple of drinks. Unfortunately our last visit found nowhere to sit, so prospective visitors would do well arrive early. Indeed, the area in front of the bar was conspicuous for the absence of any tables or chairs; a couple of stools at the bar would've done nicely, but we suppose its been cleared to accommodate the crowds come Friday night. So instead, we hovered at the bar trying to look as if it was our usual position. You'll find a decent wine list and a couple of more popular ales, while on the food front they keep it surprisingly simple with burgers and sandwiches at around £8; other pub staples are a couple of pounds more. That said, despite the original features which help make it look like something resembling a pub, it did have the feel of a food orientated establishment and compared to some of the more lively down-to-earth places nearby, the atmosphere was rather languid. Ultimately its probably a decent little hideaway for some, but didn't quite get the juices flowing for us.
