picture of Little Driver
The Little Driver has always been a pub for the locals in these parts and over the years it's served their needs pretty well. But things move on, the desires of the locals of yore are not the same as those of the apartment-dwelling locals of today and so the Little Driver has been updated to satisfy modern appetites. A lick of paint has cheered up the decor, both outside and in (it's no longer painted in the rather bright, but cheerless blue that once characterised it), and thankfully, its Victorian character remains unmolested. The interior has been opened up to create a lighter, airier ambience and the beer garden has been transformed - you wouldn't believe you were on dreary old Bow Road. The drink is not much different from the older incarnation, there are a couple of hand pumps for real ale (unfortunately both were off on our last visit) although the wine list somewhat improved and the service is cheerful, prompt and helpful. The big change is in the food, there's a much more ambitious menu, which seems reasonably priced. We've yet to try it, but we've heard quite complimentary remarks. All-in-all a sensible update to what has always been, in our opinion, a sensible pub.

The best thing about this pub is actually the staff and management, as they are always really friendly; which is especially nice for someone like me who is not only new to Bow but to London itself. The food is quite good, and very fairly priced, and it's always packed on tuesday's two for one. It's a bit too quiet for me during the week (beside tuesdays) but that's a personal reference and not a real negative. If I have one real gripe its that it still feels a bit like a work in progress, but I'm sure if you read this in 12 months time that wont be the case.

Now under new management, The Little Driver is being brought back to life. With an affordable and high quality menu of home cooked food, regular live acts on a Friday night and probably the best beer and beer garden in the eastend.
