picture of Flask
For a long time the Flask has been a great traditional boozer - a rambling olde worlde experience in the olde world village of Highgate. Stories of ghosts and Dick Turpin only add to a sense of it being a bit special. Sadly the only ghost you're likely to encounter these days is that of a once excellent pub. Being an M&B's unbranded pub, it does the usual good range of ales and continental lagers. Some of the obligatory loungey furnishings sit at odds with the aged interior, however and the view from the front is now filled with an ugly permanent gazebo, a generator and poorly arranged garden furniture. Its also odd for a pub which is frequently incredibly busy to have apparently permanently closed the larger of the two bars, leading to frustrated customers and long queues; indeed warm summer weekends finds a queuing system in place to cope with the masses. Ultimately, to get the best out of the Flask, visit out of peak times and avoid the poor food, but it really should be performing better than this.

Eating at The Flask ... we last ate here on 16/04/2007

The Welsh lamb burger was small and of below average quality, with meagre garnish and a sorry portion of chips. At £8.50 we were distinctly unimpressed. We spied equally unhappy customers. The lamb burger at the nearby Wetherspoons is actually better (and we don't say that lightly).
