picture of Ye Olde White Bear
Considering the history, character and heritage of Hampstead, its surprising that there aren't more classic pubs in the area. Of course, many have now smartened themselves up and moved into gastropub status, or simply closed down. Nevertheless, Ye Olde White Bear certainly has a good claim on being the best pub for a drink in Hampstead. It's comfortable and friendly, has board games and an impressive selection of six real ales which on our last visit included no fewer than four guest beers. Food wise, there's a relatively unpretentious pub menu which - especially considering the neighbourhood - is well priced. We've heard that there's been a decline in recent months regarding the food's quality, but we didn't have any problems on our last visit. Overall, the least pretentious and most homely pub in the area: a splendid establishment.

Eating at the Ye Olde White Bear ... we last ate here on 04/10/2008

Traditional pub grub menu. The club sandwich and the chicken pie our group ate were both well made, while the burger (£8) was also fine, if rather on the small side.
