Situated in the heart of "Hackney Village" (don't you just love estate agents), this pub got trendified a while back, sporting bar-style décor and wood fired pizzas. But time waits for no-one and with a lick of paint and a new name things have changed yet again. There's still pizza on offer, but the atmosphere has downshifted towards a far more welcoming lazy Sunday afternoon, newspaper-reading kind of place. The ambience is convivial - relaxed tunes, arty prints on the wall and the pub's populated by the expected 20 and 30 somethings from these parts. In the early days of its latest reincarnation, there was a bit of a heavy-handed dress code/door policy, but things have calmed down a little since then. There's still a guy on the door at the weekend, but it appears the 'undesirables' have got the message and don't attempt to frequent the place . As a result the atmosphere's a bit lighter and a visit here is no longer a poor alternative to the other places nearby.
