This pub offers the sort of old world experience one would expect in this neck of the woods and the Scarsdale Arms is a cut above most of the nearby pubs. The darkened interior evokes a genuine atmosphere, as does the intriguing history of the place - it was reputedly built as living quarters for the officers of Napoleon's conquering army. Rather than being a full on gastropub it's first and foremost a pub, yet one with good food. It sports a restaurant space at the back if you're after a grander dining experience, too. The staff are very accommodating and friendly, perhaps as one would expect of some place like this, its refined feel is upmarket yet not ostentatious. It gets busy on most days of the week - take the slight detour off the beaten path to get here as it's well worth it.

Decent pub grub, it's worth the price for a decent slab of steak in the steak and onion sandwich - although the chips were a little on the soggy side...

This pub is in an amazing quiet spot on a leafy street off high st ken, but that's as far as it goes unfortunately. As is the case in a few places these days, they seem to be trading off the location alone here. The food is ok, although very dated (scampi & chips?), but the attitude of the staff is really terrible. They only seem to have time for chatting to friends (at a busy bar), and the toilets are truly disgusting (even at 12.30 on a Sunday afternoon...!?). Consider alternatives.
