On the face of things a Ye Olde pubbe, the Nell Gwynne is not as touristy as its location and cosy size would make you think. Sure, it's dimly lit and makes the most of its historical associations, but it still has the feel of a locals' pub. Friendly staff, a good jukebox and decent fare add up to a honest, busy boozer. Even though it's about the size of a phone box inside, it's usually a better bet than some of the other tourist traps nearby (beware the hellish stairs to the toilets though). The Nell Gwynne is one of the more characterful boozers in Central London, and what with it now under threat of closure, a visit here is strongly recommended.
