Despite being taken over by Geronimo Inns, this Primrose Hill pub has all the appearance of still being the Young's establishment it once was. From the exterior it's a handsome place, with a small but enviable roof terrace, available to those who choose to use the upstairs restaurant. Inside however, it's deceptively small; the wide exterior is just an impressive facade. A good amount of the pub is taken up with the bar, leaving the space feeling somewhat cluttered. The whitewashed, vaguely distressed woodwork works well at lightening the place up, but there's no disguising the lack of space. Service was prompt and cheerful, so it was a shame that the drink choice came from the unimaginative end of the spectrum; Young's and Young's Special were the ales on offer, while Strongbow and Magners don't live up Geronimo Inn's usual standards. Alas, it also has the misfortune of being the closest pub to the hill itself, as well as being on the area's main cafe-lined street. As such, it gets unnecessarily busy on weekends, with NW1 trendinistas battling for standing room; fancy sharing your pub with the type of people who wear pink polo shirts with the collar pulled up? This is the place for you.
