Mismatched furniture, candles, a good selection of beer and well made food are all present and correct in this unbranded chain pub run by M&B. Atmospherically, however, this one fares less well compared to others we have been to. It maybe the transient afterwork clientele or the awkward layout but it doesn't feel as chilled out as it could be. Still, the large basement with regular DJs and a late licence means there's plenty of extra space, even if some of the peeling and cracked couches go beyond 'post-modern' into 'tatty' territory. Ultimately, the Phoenix isn't a bad place if you fancy a loud and lively Friday night and its also pretty useful midweek as a meeting place very close to Oxford Circus.
