picture of Washington
Into its third incarnation in five years, 'The Wash', as they now nickname themselves, has veered back from the precipice of gastrodom. It's been taken over by the Mitchells and Butlers group as part their continually expanding, non-themed, upmarket chain of pubs. As such, emphasis is on a good choice of beer, wine and well made food. In contrast with the bland exterior, the Victorian interior is splendid, with original etched glass, wood panelling and high ceilings all intact and an eclectic mix of tables and couches, all laid out with thought. On our Sunday afternoon visit a pianist was playing some easy listening jazzy music and the whole atmosphere was equally easy. Despite being part of a clever M&B marketing plan to cater to a specific socio-economic group, it would be churlish to do anything except recommend this place highly.

This is a great pub. Good ale/beer selecion, very good wine list. Always a good friendly fun crowd. I'm a lucky man that a pub as good as this, is my local.

What a wonderous place to be!!! My favourite place in London to people watch at any time of the day or night. And the Landlord? A fabulous gent who really knows an loves this place. Apparently his great great grandfather built the pub - joyous! and the food? fantastic. The service? Impeccable I just hope Terry and Kate are here to stay as without them, it would'nt be the institution that it has become today.
