how to find it:
Leaving Sydenham station, turn left and walk down the high street for a few minutes; the pub is on your left, on a corner.
The Man of Kent looks pretty dreadful from the outside, the sort of place you wouldn't dream of stopping into for a beer. It's a tatty corner pub with dirty, worn seats and a musty interior. The bottled beers available here say it all: they include Toby's Pale Ale, Gold Label and Mann's Ale. Yet somehow, the place isn't all that bad. Intrigued by a jukebox stuffed with country and pop classics, we ended up spending a couple of hours here. The friendly Irish landlady brightened up the place too, while the elderly locals got on with getting quietly leathered. If you don't mind drinking in dingy surroundings, you might do worse.
