A decent, no-nonsense boozer with none of the pretensions of some of the places not so far away from here. It's a big, well-looked after place, with good, Hall & Woodhouse ales (eg Badger, Tanglefoot and Fursty Ferret) and fast and very friendly service. The food is pretty pub-grub ordinary, but it can be a relief from some of the painful gastro twaddle on offer around - though a Kobe steak burger is verging on that territory - and far more economical if all you need is a fuel stop. It's got a good local feel and the warming coal fire is a great draw in the colder months. The upstairs function room is available for hire and you can find a variety of activities on there, including the odd bit of theatre. Not a bad place at all.
