The Old Bell, Fleet Street  

The Old Bell is one of the legendary Fleet Street pubs when this area was well and truly the street of shame. Sadly, those days are long gone and so have the marathon drinking sessions - printer and pundit alike. When you go now, in it's not easy to imagine what it was once like, when the front bar was the off-licence and the serious drinking went on (and on) in the tiny bar in the back. Nowadays, it's a jolly nice Nicholson's pub and it serves a very decent pint - plenty of hand pumps with plenty of well kept guest beers. The beautiful St Bride's church (Wren's prototype wedding cake) at the back of it makes a trip here all the more worth while (and make sure you visit the crypt). One of the best pubs in these parts - another fragment of London's history, with excellent beers to boot.
