The Red Lion is a well run, comfortable Fuller's house that makes the most of its location, with walls adorned with photos and posters from Ealing Comedies and the various actors who've passed through the gates of the legendary Ealing Film Studios opposite (somehow they've even got a signed photo of Basil Brush). The pub may not be as charming as the one in
Passport to Pimlico, but it's still very good indeed. The full compliment of well kept Fullers ales (usually along with a guest beer) are dispensed by friendly, efficient staff. The patio beer garden, the newish back part and the full, varied (pricey) food menu means the pub tips a wink at modernity, but it still retains more than a hint of boozerdom that the Ealing stars of yesteryear wouldn't grumble about. With the atmosphere provided by a good mix of locals murmuring idle conversation, our favourite spot remains in the snugs at the front, near the inviting bar. We're also happy to learn Basil has made a
comeback(possibly as the hunting ban's in place now) but we don't expect to see him in the Red Lion anytime soon. Boom boom!
Eating at The Red Lion ... we last ate here on 14/03/2007
Pricey food - lots of items above £10. The 8oz burger at £8.95 is pretty damb good and precluded needing to eat for a good time afterward.
