picture of Crown
The Crown is one of life's mysteries. For decades it's been a solid, dependable little pub, set in a prime location at the junction of the seven roads that meet at Seven Dials. Reliably knocking out decent ale and friendly service to the tourists, shoppers, theatregoers and office workers that pass through here. Yet it's never crowded. On a sweaty, bustling, West End Thursday evening, when most pubs roundabout were full to bursting point, you could still get a seat in the Crown. And there was nothing we could see to put people off. All the ales were on the hand pumps, there was plenty of choice if you were looking for lagers or wine or spirits, there were enough people to give the place atmosphere - yet there was plenty of room for more (and it is a tiny little pub). This isn't the first time we've noted this at the Crown and it's one of the reasons we often meet up here when we're up west - it is, however, a curious conundrum.
