It's been argued that Kentish Town is being dragged up by the social bootstraps, and this is probably evident most in the pubs and eateries of the area. When we heard The Assembly House was under new management a couple of years ago, our collectives hearts sank. On paper, and judging by what's happening elsewhere in the world of pubs, we were expecting a soulless gastro effort, but in reality, it's not too bad at all. Much of the interior has thankfully been kept intact and it still benefits from huge, high ceilings. There is plenty of seating for those who are in for more than just a quick pint before heading over to the Forum, so don't be put off when the front section is full. The nosh may seem a bit on the pricey side for pub food at first glance, but lordy, the portions are huge and the quality belies the price. The staff are easy-going and attentive, without being pushy, and the relaxed atmosphere and unobtrusive music encourage you to stick around longer than you may have planned.

Absolutely attrocious service. Used to use this pub regularly. Now go elsewhere thanks to rude and unbelievably aggressive bar staff who always serve their friends first. It has been suggested that this part of Kentish Town was once badly hit by the plague. Take my advice and treat it as though it still were.

I stopped here for the first time for some food and beer before going onto the Forum. Pub itself was great, very pleasant, beer average (watery Kronenberg) and the food was pricey and poor. £7.50 for a poor quality burst piece of steak in ciabatta. Going to the Forum again soon so will try somewhere else for food.

I am by nature a diffident sort not inclined to complain, but having been served the most ridiculously short pint I have ever seen I felt obliged to ask for it to be topped up - if only for reasons of self-respect. My request was met with flat refusal, aggression and biligerence until it was pointed out to the staff member concerned that she was making an error. I'm a local to this pub and would like to go regularly, but really I now has to conlude that it is in fact an institution served by evil, pig-ignorant, fuckbunnies. And this makes me sad.

This pub has gone completely downhill in recent months. I work locally and have eaten in this pub about once a week for the last 2 years. In the last couple of months, the food has become gradually worse, but this pales into insignificance against the unbelievably rude staff (in particular the 2 'ladies' who work here in the daytime). Cold, burnt food, which takes an age to arrive, served with an absence of cutlery and a crappy attitude. Eat here at your peril.
