picture of Kings Head
No longer a pub named after an antiestablishment poet, the Shelley changed its name to the more regal King's Head and was relaunched as a Nicholson's pub. The generic traditionalisms of the Nicholson's brand are ideal for this part of town - abounding as it does in wheel-heeled tourists - and the King's Head and the nearby Clarence both stick rigidly to the Nicholson's ethos (so much so, that it's actually difficult to tell the two pubs apart). The King's Head offers a bit more space - especially with its downstairs bar - though it's hard to see this one as much more than just another above average after-work pub. It does the job, but it doesn't quite stir the emotions.
