how to find it:
From Paddington - take the side exit from the mainline station, alongside Platform 1, and climb the stairs. Chilworth Street is directly opposite and the Cleveland is between the second and third streets on the right. From Lancaster Gate - turn right at the exit to the station and cross the traffic lights, and having crossed them turn immediately right along Lancaster Terrace and then immediately left again onto Gloucester Terrace. Take the second on the left (Chilworth Street) and the Cleveland is on the right hand side.

A real find within spitting distance of Paddington station. The Cleveland Arms is a proper pub, eclectically decorated, nestling within an area full of large white Georgian townhouses. It is not particularly big, but people are often more than happy to make room - particularly on the quiz night, which is a friendly occasion, despite the gruffness of the quizmaster/landlord (we think he's just shy). There are 3 ales on tap (Greene King IPA, Bass and a guest ale), and more choice in bottles, plus the usual; all at decent prices, as befits a truly independent pub. The background music is just that - in the background. Plus, we should mention the food in this review: it is honestly and unashamedly microwaved in front of you on the bar, and not only very tasty but excellent value.
