In recent times this one was decked out like a student flat, with film and TV posters hung on the walls. All gone now, as the walls are now magnolia. Don't expect a gastro makeover though. This pub is mad keen on the football - we can remember a promotion with giant footballs and goals for Euro 2004 - and there's also a pool table to keep you occupied. However, it doesn't add up to much. Wood Green hasn't that many pubs you'd come from afar to check out. The Nelson is one of those probably best left to its regulars.

Perfect for footie fans who dont mind a ramed pub full of West ham fans, good atmosphere does exactly what is says on the tin.

This is now a mainline footie pub, with three or four live games often being shown simultaenously on four or five big screens situated in different areas of the pub. You often get four or five different groups of supporters watching and commenting loudly on four different matches. It's a rough and ready pub, very loud, very working class (and 'underclass'). Everybody seems to get along, however, even when they're roaring their heads off at several completely different live matches on different screens. Not for the punter looking for a 'quiet pint'. When there's no football on, it's dead and almost completely deserted.
