picture of Wheatsheaf
Back in the 1930s when beer was 6d a pint, George Orwell, Dylan Thomas and other assorted bohemians drank in the panelled room that makes up the main bar. These days, the beer has gone up in price and the pub always seems oddly, and pleasantly, quiet (except for just after work, towards the weekend). It's a very traditional-looking pub, with a large section of stained glass completing the picture, and it makes no attempt to pretend otherwise. The local workers who go there don't seem to mind, either. There are a couple of real ales and a lunchtime menu on offer. If you have a soft spot for atmospheric old boozers, give it a try.
