Marylebone High Street is one of London's lesser-known upmarket shopping street, with all sorts of expensive and fashionable boutiques and emporia lining both sides of the road. Guarding the southern entrance to this retail nirvana, stands a trusty Yorkshire stalwart - Sam Smith's Angel in the Fields. If you're a fan of the brewery, then you'll know what to expect, solid, well-kept traditional bitters, ales and stouts supported by an esoteric assortment of own-brand wine, spirits and mixers all at a very reasonable price. (For the area at least - it might still be a bit of a shock for visitors not from these parts.) We know the Sam Smith's offer is not everyone's cup-of-tea (if you pardon the expression) but it does the job for us. The pub's been recently refurbished - the bar's been moved downstairs - but if you weren't familiar with it before, you probably won't realise it. It still has the same reassuring dark oak panelling and cosy interior. The service is fast and friendly and the upstairs room can be a welcome relief if it's crowded downstairs - usually lunch times and just after work.
