For some reason, we've walked past this pub for years - and only recently ventured in. The word "cavernous" definitely applies to this pub as it's in the basement of an office building. They don't appear to have changed the ground plan much, keeping nooks, crannies and other secluded spots for people to get lost in. (We think we spotted Amelia Earhart and Lord Lucan in one corner, but we can't be sure.) While it's probably trying to capitalise on the Clerkenwell crowd - Turnmills is just over the road - there are several odd things about it: primarily, that it has a really late license, shows Sky Sports, does Karaoke on Thursday nights (after 10) and has a DJ on Friday and Saturdays. As it's a 'spoon pub, it does decent beer, with a good selection of guests on most days. It does worry us, though, that they've started selling Fetzer wine on draught - while we know people who can drink wine by the pint, we're not sure that it's behaviour we should be encouraging. While okay for a quiet pint during the day, we suspect it gets busy of an evening with all those night-owls stumbling in for cheap drink before going off to a club. And don't mention Thursdays...
