picture of Czechoslovak National House
The bar is just one part of this club for exiles from Czechoslovakia (as was) which has been going since the late 1940s, apparently. There's also a restaurant open to all comers, but for our purposes the most important thing is beer. Czech beer. Which is why we go here and, of course, it's excellent stuff. There are bar snacks too, such as herring and bread if you feel peckish. The ex-pats still predominate but there are plenty of other visitors. During one visit instead of meeting, say, a group of gorgeous young ladies with impossibly long legs, we encountered a group from Glasgow and Belfast exchanging republican and unionist slogans. This sums our lives too perfectly to dwell on further. Instead, we should warn readers that, apparently, they won't serve halves because (in true Eastern bloc spirit) "if I gave you one, then I'd have to give everyone one." They do some spirits, but if you come here, just drink pints, hey?
