how to find it:

From Clapham Junction, exit via the main shopping centre exit, turn left and walk down past The Falcon pub. Turn left here down Falcon Road and keep going. You'll eventually see the pedestrian part of Battersea High Street in front of you, walk down that and then carry on down the next section of Battersea High Street where you'll find the pub.

picture of Castle You sense many first-time goers cross the threshold with a touch of trepidation, as from the outside The Castle appears an unreconstructed Estate pub. On entering though, you quickly realise this one's had a gastropub makeover. Now, you could make a case here for the loss of a salt-of-the-earth boozer and its replacement with a foodie haunt, but you'd be hard pressed to win the argument. Indeed, even if the staff seemed a little inexperienced, it's still a Young's house with quality beers and even a couple of pub cats. Overall, the mix of pub with tasteful dining has been more sensitively handled here than in many other places we could mention. Enjoy it alone or, even better, include it in a mini-crawl with The Woodman and Le Quecumbar across the road.
