how to find it:
Not near a tube, although it's quite close to Clapham Junctions railway station walk up St. John's road and turn left into Battersea Rise after a few minutes' walk and you'll see it on your left near the corner.
A vast improvement over the O'Neill's that used to be here, The Goat is actually now worth visiting. It has an impressive interior - wooden floors, comfy leather sofas, chandeliers - and proper background music. It does have the trendy touch, but with 3 draught ales (Bass, Deuchars IPA and Smiles Cheeky Pint when we visited) and 3 continental beers (Leffe, Kriek and Fruli) on tap in addition to the standard lagers and Guinness - plus a huge range of bottled beers - there's good drinking to be had. The menu is just this side of gastro, and the prices are similarly just about tolerable (£2.85 for a pint of the Smiles, £6.90 cheapest menu item for instance). We haven't sampled the food, but with a separate upstairs dining area it should be possible to eat without being jostled.
