When last orders were called for the final time and the former Irish regulars wended their way over the road to the Kingdom, what they left behind was a spectacular Victorian interior, which had simply been ignored for years. During its transition into an upmarket gastropub, it was thankfully refurbished sympathetically, maintaining the interior (notably the very ornate ceiling) and a glorious separate dining room. Despite their commitment to attract the young, trendy crowd (who are only now discovering the delights of Kilburn) the main room still feels and looks like a pub rather than a loungers paradise. On the drinks front, after initially not serving ale, we're pleased to see a token pump (Adnam's Broadside) has now made a belated appearance. We can't vouch for the quality of the food, and it was pricey, but the surroundings ought to numb the pain. Previously one of the roughest pubs in Kilburn; now it's one of the best.
