picture of Ship
Home to some of our favourite drinkeries, Borough has an unusually high concentration of top class boozers. The Ship, located a short walk south of Borough tube, has some of the features which make other nearby pubs so great: a relaxed but lively atmosphere, a truly varied crowd of punters made who live and work nearby, a decent range of beers (a good selection of Fuller's finest) and a healthy disrespect for pretension. There's pretty much something for everyone here - a dartboard at the back, a quiet seating area at the top (with its own bar, although this wasn't in operation when we were last there), a concealed and quiet beer garden out the back and the main bar which in addition to great beer was serving up a pretty good selection of tunes. There's a comedy evening ("Ship of Fools") every other Friday too. It's not escaped our notice that Fuller's have spent a good deal of time and effort redecorating and renovating a lot of their pubs lately and it's certainly paid off here at the ship. The Ship's handsome facade positively sparkles in the grimy Borough air. If there were international standards in "Decent" and "Solid" then this pub would be able to proudly display its certification.
