picture of Queens Arms
Whilst we could never say we were huge fans of the old pub, we did recognise that it served a local need. The new look Queens Arms though, does at least differ from the clichéd gastropub makeover: the airy dining area on the ground floor comes as a surprise and the upstairs restaurant means the hardcore foodies don't have to cross the path of those just in for a drink. Whilst the beer choices aren't exceptional, the range of wines certainly is. So, just when this one was a nudging a three pint rating, we were chastened by the attitude of some of our fellow punters: errant babies crawling round a pub never win us over, and whilst inattentive parenting isn't the pub's fault, do be aware that that's the sort of punters you're likely to be sharing pub space with. Only a two pinter on our visit then.
