picture of Cock and Woolpack
This unobtrusive pub is something of a City institution and, thanks to its location, is generally only frequented by those lucky few in the know or when felicity smiles upon the unwary commuter in search of a short cut (given its size, this is not such a bad thing). When Mr. Wetherspoon came up with the concept of a pub where one could go, sit in plush surroundings, drink a nice pint of ale and converse without being interrupted by loud jukeboxes, we've no doubt that the Cock and Woolpack was the sort of pub he had in mind. The difference however between the cavernous JD establishments and this rather pleasing, Shepherd Neame snug, is that the conversation actually generates an atmosphere, rather than being lost in the commodious ceilings of the former. A good pub for a quick pint on the way home (if you can find it).
