how to find it:

From Stratford Station: Head up to the main road and turn right, walking past the bus station and carry on following the road. When you get to the lights, bear on right down the High Street and over the humped bridge. Carry on until you get to the next set of lights by the petrol station and turn right. The pub is two minutes walk down on the right.

picture of Carpenters Arms
This pub is, frankly, intimidating from the outside. Its better inside, we'd even call it welcoming. Got Tetleys and usual suspects on the pumps, but nothing exceptional. This is a locals pub and quite happily so. Its placement in the middle of a number of estates means that it gets very local at certain times, but we found it pretty friendly on a Friday lunchtime. There were all types in, regulars, local workers, OAPs, and even some families. As it's obviously a critical part of the local community, it does its job very well.
