As property prices in London increased at an exponential rate, the trendy young things moved to more and more wayward places. Not far behind these people will always be the ubiquitous gastropub. Formerly an average boozer in the middle of nowhere, the Victoria Stakes is now a "bar and dining room" with grand ideas. It's has little in the way of competition so the refurb was fairly basic - it looks very similar to how its was before, save for a couple of couches and the pretty "garden restaurant". Sadly, it tries too hard at trying to not look like it's trying hard. Look at their web site and you'll understand. To top it off their 'bar food' prices are simply too high - the cheapest meal is a vegetable dish coming in at a whopping £11. As much as tries to pretend otherwise, this is Muswell Hill, not Mayfair.
