Tollgate, Turnpike Lane  

You would think from reading Fancyapint, that sometimes we have some issues with Wetherspoon pubs. Sadly when they keep running atrocious places, we will keep criticising them. Many, many moons ago (it seems) we used to visit this particular pub with no real problems, but these days it is truly terrible here. It appears, primarily, to be a refuge for all the local alcoholics, slumped in their chairs, spluttering into their beer and cackling to themselves. We know that Wetherspoon pubs can attract the odd 'eccentric' in search of a cheap beer fix, but this place was filled to the brim with them. Adding to the whole ambience, as soon as you walked in, the smell of stale beer carpets and smoke hit you like a brick. This is one pub which certainly might benefit from the upcoming smoking ban, even though we're not sure if they'll have any customers afterwards. Simply dreadful.
