picture of Cantaloupe Bar and RestaurantThe strident, heady days of the dot com boom are well behind this locale now, but the whole area is still trendy bar city. Cantaloupe can lay fair claim to being one of the bars (if not the bar) that established the area as the Capital's capital of cool. Things are somewhat more tranquil than they used to be - although the weekend evenings are still pretty busy - and it is a decent place to relax on a weekend afternoon (actually, it can get very quiet sometimes). There aren't any real beers on tap - it's not that sort of place, but there are plenty of continental beers (including the original Bud) and not a bad pint of Guinness. Wine and spirit drinkers have far more choice, which after all is the main thrust of the place. The restaurant's OK too. If you can bag the squashy settees in the back room, you can have a pretty chilled afternoon - and that's what we tend to do here.

Eating at the Cantaloupe Bar & Restaurant ... we last ate here on 23/5/2005

Pretty standard food for the area, decent quality - the paella's not bad for 9.50 including a glass of wine.
