A fine old pub that wouldn't be out of place in a much more rural setting, the Windsor Castle has been a favourite with the Fancyapint? reviewers for years. It's a rambling, higgledy-piggledy place, with the sort of pub interior you'd expect to find in Treasure Island - including forehead-bashing little doors in the partitions. The beer is pretty good with excellent well-kept real ales on the hand pumps - Pride, Landlord, Sunchaser and Old Rosie (OK so that one's cider) on the last visit - and so is the food. True it is pricey, but that's hardly a surprise considering where it pub's located. There's a very agreeable enclosed beer garden out the back, but it's unlikely you'll find a seat on a warm summer's evening, but for a leisurely weekday lunch it's an excellent spot. The Windsor Castle's a very pleasant place when it's not crowded and when it is, it's often a jolly crowd.
