picture of Amersham Arms
The Amersham Arms - a long-time favourite of students and locals alike - has recently been refurbished by the people responsible for the Lock Tavern in Camden. Happily, they've done a good job - low lighting, retro couches and junk on the walls create a bohemian air. Cocktails are displayed on a greasy spoon café style pinboard and named after classic cars - fancy a Jensen Interceptor, perhaps? A little too clever for it's own good, we admit to being secretly impressed. They're also smart enough to keep food prices down; this is a student heavy area, so a well made burger only costs £5.95, while the beer choice includes Spitfire on tap. Service was good, but the more busy it became - and it became pretty darn busy - the more the queues backed up, in no small measure due to the preparation required for the aforementioned cocktails. It was also good to see that the back room still plays hosts to various musical entertainment - the omnipresent Horrors have done DJ sets here, for example - plus there's a lot of live acts. Overall, we really like it here and just hope it doesn't suffer the fate of it's older brother by taking itself too seriously.

Don't forget to add the WIFI icon on this pub. Service was great, we went on Sunday for a roast, not on the menu, but the food we ordered was delivered fast and good. A complementary bloody mary shot ensured we would return to this cool pub. I can be bribed!
