The adjectives "cavernous" and "decent" are rarely to be found together in descriptions of pubs, but we may have found one that just about manages it. The Anglers is indeed a pretty big place, but not totally lacking in atmosphere as one might expect. The bar had a very decent selection of beers, not just the usual real ales (Pride, IPA) but also a number of tramp-friendly strength Belgian beers, including Chimay, Duvel and the like. Friendly staff too who were only too happy to describe the selection of Kettle Chips they had on offer. The Anglers has a slightly trendy suburban feel to it - old skool space invaders table games and Formica table tops compete with comfy leather sofas a la gastropub. It appears to attract a range of young professional marrieds with their kids. Indeed, the place is pretty child friendly and we spotted a play ground out the front. Food was served at the bar, and in the summer months there's a barbecue out the back (or the front, depending from where you approach it). Combined with a good location on the river, it's not a bad place to enjoy a couple of pints on a summer afternoon.
