It's no surprise that this pub has been reborn as a gastroboozer, this place has absolutely no surprises for anyone familiar with the area and gastropubness. Billed as a pub and dining room, it's really a dining room that sells some beer. The beer selection is pretty unremarkable, with no hand pumps and the food is regular gastro-fayre. It's not really the sort of place you'd come to for a reflective pint or two and a couple of chapters of Proust, you're here of to meet and greet with your fellow Hackneyites. Bank holidays and warm sunny days will see it packed with the local inhabitants and their progeny.

The food was great - until we invited some friends and it was the worst in months. Typical! Maybe the chef was having an off-day but they clearly couldn't cope with the numbers. Avoid upstairs as it's boring and there are far too many squealing kids skidding about - in fact it's in danger of becoming a yummy-mummy's haven which is a shame.
