picture of Woodman
The Woodman has reopened after a recent (and ongoing) refurbishment. Formerly a contender for Plumstead's worst pub (there's some strong competition), the Woodman has thankfully raised its game. The exterior has been repainted in elegant greens and now shows a more cheerful face to the Common. Inside, the front area of the bar has comfy sofas and low tables for relaxed boozing; the large print wallpaper is a nice touch too. The shiny new bar offers San Miguel and other draught lagers, but no real ale as yet, somewhat disappointingly. The back portion of the pub has yet to be finished, so consider this a preliminary report on the Woodman's rebirth. Is this the gastropub some recent SE18 arrivals have been bleating for? It does not appear so; the clientele on our visit was as solidly male and working-class as you'd find in many suburban pubs. We'll be back soon for a second look.

My dad Dean and my step mum Brenda are the mangers of the Woodman pub and i think since they got there they have put new life into the pub as when it opened no one was drinking in their and now we have regular customers. we also have new beer ( Tiger beer) and a slection of sprits and bitters and beers which our customers love. We have jazz sections and Karoke nights and we also let people rent out the pub for partys. So next time your around why not drop in for a drink and have a chat.....

I live near this pub and the first time I went in it looked a bit dodgy and I was a little bit nervous. I needn't have been - the staff and customers are really friendly and made me feel at home. There is seemingly endless Karaoke at the weekends, which I love, but might not be everyone's cup of tea! The only down side is the beer selection isn't great if you are a bitter drinker. It's Guiness or nothing.
