UPDATE: Currently undergoing a refurb at the moment - we'll let you know when it's back open again.

A few years ago this was the New Market, a pub which played host to the nearby Smithfield meat workers, amongst others. It reopened in early 2007 with a new name and a new direction, aiming for a more upmarket crowd and sensibility. Putting in a decent and reasonably priced menu, recruiting hardworking and genial staff (all kept firmly in line by the friendly landlady), means things have got a whole lot better than they used to be, and the place has settled in nicely. There's a reasonable wine list, and numerous lagers on tap to choose from - the only ale on when we were in last was Adnam's, which was well kept and went down a treat. It also plays host to live music events and opens occasionally at the weekends as a music venue (an interesting call as most of the pubs in these parts shut for the weekends). One other attraction is the Roof Terrace - an unusual thing in this part of London - though it's probably no surprise that it's become a smoker's paradise. Having worked hard to muscle in on the Smithfield drinking market, the pub has its adherents, mostly nearby office workers. And in light of recent pub closures nearby, that's a pretty good achievement.

I took my girlfriend here the other day expecting to have a refreshing night out, recommended by a friend, but the place is pokey and small. What's more the booze and food is extremely expensive - a small coke is about £2 and pints are like over £4. The Bar and Grill next door is really good though!

We went thier a while back and had a totaly weird nifgt. We were trying to enjoy the music but one of the bar staff kept stalking up and down as if she ownned the place - huffing and pufing like nobodies business. It was reall off putting and didnt help the atmosfere coz its a cool venue.
