From the outside, this looks more like a club than a pub. Just goes to show appearances can be deceiving. It's gone gastro, retaining all the original tiling and features of the original gin palace. It has lost the folk music pub look it had a few years ago, but that's not a bad thing. The food's good quality, if a bit pricey - hey, this is Islington, what do you expect? The clientele in the evenings are a good mix of people just chillin'' and having a few drinks and those that actually feel a bit peckish, the food. It has a very 'grown-up' feel to it, a bit of class which doesn't pander to youfs getting smashed on alcopops. There're only a couple of beers on the pumps - nothing exciting - but they've got a good selection of Belgian beers in the fridge. It's a refreshing oasis from normal Islington pub life and a little off the beaten track, which is probably why it's the way it is.
