The Black Heart (ex Camden Tup), Camden  

So as another in the Tup chain bites the dust, it has been replaced by a far more appropriate bar called the Black Heart. It's not a goth haunt, however, but instead a lo-slung and sultry looking bar, brought to you by the owners of the lamentable Hoxton Bar and Kitchen. This place however fares petty well at the moment with an impressive roster of DJs and live events. Fancy a 'Napoleon Dynamite' night, for example? There are also some interesting themed quizzes, too, based on animals or dead celebrities to name but two. Saying that, when we saw the promo for the 90's quiz describing that decade as having "terrible fashion" it made us feel somewhat old, while also being amused at the irony of such a statement in an age of electroplated jeans and giant red plastic sunglasses. Anyway, the decor is dark and minimalistic, but the multi-leveled aspect adds some interest and there is a scattering of religious idolatry (fervent Christians look away now) along with some nice booths towards the back. With a 12.30am licence as an added bonus, overall this is a lively and fun addition to Camden.
