Queen's Head, Winchmore Hill  

Since our last visit in 2007, something has gone horribly wrong here. The Queen's Head used to be the cream of the crop in Winchmore Hill, but now we're just bemused. Firstly, it's starting to look pretty tired, both inside and out. Posters are fading to blue in the window, the cigarette bin has been tagged with graffiti and the signs are fading. Not only that, the 'bar and restaurant' description is pretty inaccurate as our Sunday afternoon visit found no food on offer, in a place which once had the best food in N21. A cold draft whistled around the place which while always a problem here seems worse now, due in part to a number of small broken windows. The one ale (Greene King IPA) was off, while the music and Formula One racing competed for aural superiority, a mess which reached a crescendo during the German national anthem. To top it all off, we were the only customers, but that's hardly surprising. The landlord was friendly and chatty enough, but someone needs to come in here and put the heart back into this place - the drab student flatshare look is drastically out-of-date, as the refurbished Salisbury up the road illustrates. Certainly a pub that has lost it's way.
