picture of Barretts
Too modern to be quite old-school Cricklewood, Barretts seems to attract those who remember the Cricklewood of yore, pre-the advent of poncification. It's one of a small chain of Irish pubs across northwest London, and is probably one of the better places to drink in Cricklewood. There was an abundance of, mainly Irish, men in late middle-age enjoying themselves quite vocally during our visit. We got chatting to a friendly geezer who boasted of his ability to drink 30 pints of Guinness a day! (We were pretty sure it wasn't William Hague in Gaelic disguise.) The Guinness here was fine, with other favourites of the Old Country available too, from Magner's cider to Nash's Red Lemonade, with warmed whiskey and brandy on offer too. Quite a place for fans of sports of the Emerald Isle, too, it would appear. Good clean, and moderately raucous, fun.
