The Steam Passage has seen several refurbishments in recent history, with the most striking changes of the latest version evident from the outside. Firstly, Tavern has been added to its name, while a new sign and black livery makes it appear more as one pub, rather than two stuck together (it took over the shop next door several years ago). Being a handy meeting spot on Upper Street means it isn't always easy to find a seat, but if you're lucky there are several tables at the front to watch the world go by, with a more comfortable raised area at the back. It's a decent effort, especially compared with some of the generic chain pubs nearby, but it wouldn't hurt to have some imagination with the drinks selection.
