The York, Angel  

One of the few proper pubs left on Islington's main drag. It's now a Nicholson's and does everything to the standards we've come to expect from them. The beer is pretty decent - Pride, Bombardier and guests on the hand pumps - and it's promptly and pleasantly served. It's a big pub, so there's usually plenty of room, although it does get crowded, at the times you'd expect, towards the end of the week. However, unlike most of the clientele it seems, we don't feel the outside seating is particularly enticing - unless you're really into NOX, particulates and avant-garde poetry (as practised by some of the local street residents).
