how to find it:
Rather sneakily, Highgate tube is a fair walk from Highgate Village. Leave Highgate tube by the pedestrian exit, take a left and cross straight over the large junction onto Southwood Lane. Take the first turning on your right - The Park - and follow this road as it becomes a lane which leads you on to North Hill. Turn left and the pub should soon appear, across the road from you.

When we first reviewed the Bull in 2006, it was verging on being a restaurant for us. Owned by the same people behind the similarly grand The House in Highbury, it's an upmarket place, all chandeliers and polished surfaces. However going upstairs to play pool and sup their Highgate Ale merited a cautiously optimistic review. Our latest visit, however, found dismissive and unhelpful staff. It's quite obvious this is not a place to have a relaxed pint and read the paper - every table was laid out with cutlery for the evening shift. Attempting to ascertain if the pool table was still available was met only with being told that a private party booked for upstairs; we doubt it was due to start anywhere close to the 4.45pm we arrived. They may call themselves a "pub and restaurant", but apart from the outside terrace we saw zero evidence of the former.
