We never got round to this one in its previous incarnation as the Black Widow. Then it was part of the Eerie Pub chain - all mock horror furnishings, a mix of Castle Dracula, Frankenstein's laboratory and Halloween night in a Students' Union. From ghostly to gastro then, as a more refined atmosphere awaits in the Prince Regent: out went the cocktails in test-tubes and in came a lengthy wine list. As for the food, the menu showed a couple of deviations from gastro norms, the usual Thai fishcakes making way for dishes like a Spanish charcuterie platter. Shame then, that the originality isn't carried over into the décor - the standard gastro refit is in operation, all hardwood floors and duck egg blue walls. As gastropubs go, there's nothing much wrong. It all just rather feels too familiar, with no real surprises behind the bar. It's a formula though, that looks a winner, and when we last popped in, this was one of the busiest venues on Gloucester Road (though most punters appeared to be here for the food).

i have to say..the pub looks nice and could be a great meeting place for friends also close to the station, the menu looks great too and affordable prices but i think is totally rubish, the manager is cold staff and you can tell they don't work as a team,i had to wait wait and wait because of their mistake, and the food is not so great for such a great advertise it was better years ago alexX

Your review is way outdated. The Prince Regent has excellent excellent food and a broad selection of brews and wines, with guest ales (changed periodically). It's a nice, upscale local crowd, mixed with some tourists. Decent sized restaurant area and also nice sized pub area in the front. you can order food at either. Front pub area has tables and sofas with newspapers, so you can go alone or with friends. Bar snacks include pistachios and purists' pork scratchings that are the real deal. The pub is very clean and well staffed so you don't wait around for 15 minuts at the bar just to get a pint. It has outdoor seating too (on Gloucester Road) so it really has everything you could want in a pub without the louts and yobs. Three thumbs up!
