how to find it:

Leave Greenwich Station and cross Greenwich High Road and head to the traffic lights at the junction with Greenwich South Street. (It should be just ahead of you if you came out of the main exit, otherwise, turn left and walk 100m or so until you get to the junction). Turn right up Greenwich South Street and walk up the hill a short while until you come to the junction with Blisset Street (3rd left). You should see the pub on your left, next to the (large) fire station.

picture of Royal George
The Royal George is an excellent little local, next to one of the biggest fire stations we've seen. The colleagues of Captain Flack, Barney McGrew, Dibble et al were not in evidence when we last visited, but what we did get, was a warm and friendly welcome. It's a Shepherd Neame pub so fine pints of Master Brew and Spitfire are available. Attractive stained glass windows at the front, ship models and tankards give the pub's interior character too. Recommended.

This pub has had several managers over recent years. It was also refurbished some time ago and the bar was repositioned. Went there for the first time in 12 years a couple of weekends ago - what a little gem! Good Shepherd Neame ales, the most amazingly clean toilets, live entertainment... and then the bombshell came, after talking with the locals. This pub will close in January 2010 if a buyer isn't found. Me and my wife have fond memories of the George and were thrilled to see it in such a good state. I can honestly say I felt a bit sick when I heard it might close, and one of the locals we spoke to was a bit choked up when he told us.
only one comment, so far on this pub - why not add your own?
