picture of Old Fire Station
Fresh from a refurbishment, the Old Fire Station is back in action as one of the more idiosyncratic venues in W6. It's a massive space, as one might expect, with high ceilings and a few separate areas which break up the otherwise industrial feel of the place. This is not a cosy pub to while away an afternoon - the original tiling, seemingly still in place, was clearly designed to be practical rather than aesthetically pleasing, while the exposed pipe work and metal bar make the place rather harsh and impersonal. There's a separate restaurant, with prices in the mid teens, while the bar menu is far more reasonable - the burger will leave you with some change from a tenner. Beer choices are pretty good, too, veering towards premium lager, but not particularly cheap. Like most other places within close proximity to Hammersmith tube, the weekend evenings finds it packed with young people having a lively time and it can get pretty noisy in here due to the acoustics. It is however, much less of a vertical drinking establishment than it's previous incarnation. Ultimately, the Old Fire Station is worth a look if you're after for something a bit different from the norm, but we personally didn't warm to the place.
