South Woodford station has two exits, both of which are not necessarily open at any given time. The quickest way to get to the pub is to leave by the George Lane (West) exit from the platform on which trains arrive from central London. Continue ahead along George Lane to the end, and you'll find the pub on the left at the end of the road. If that exit isn't open, leave by the George Lane (East) exit and then go through the subway under the railway just next to the station and proceed as above. Its less than a 10-minute walk in all.

The George has a prominent location in the centre of South Woodford, next to the cinema, and it must be said, it's rather good. It might be described as a new style, old-school pub, a grand old early 18th century structure recently and smartly renovated to positive effect. The bar has a few sofas at one end, a dining-focused (although not exclusively so) nook around the corner and an outside drinking area. There are a couple of real ales on hand pumps, and a food menu that promises mostly fairly traditional pub-grub. Bar service was efficient and friendly. The lighting is pleasingly, moderately, subtle, but the music can, at times, be a little too loud in some parts of the pub. It's a comfortable, unpretentious and pleasing place to relax, something reflected by the wide mix of locals, young and old, drinking here. All in all, as pubs go, a minor and understated classic.

A poor establishment, beer flies all throughout the pub and you would be better off running next door to the cinema to use the loo, these guys don't employ cleaners and the loo air is awful.the staff are rude and the punters violent.

This pub is awful, they don't treat their customers like customers they treat them like dirt but they love your money though!! What happened to my sister and me is disgusting-she got barred from there because apparantly she laughed!!! She was accused of laughing at someone who is disabled but here is the best bit-she is disabled herself!!!! She was told she was barred for 3 months so around that time later we went in there-everything was fine.......for about 4 hours then they decided to chuck us out after taking our money....pushing us down the stairs!!! I think the staff in there are horrible and i think they are discrimantive aswell-when i tried to get a number to complain they hung up and then wouldn't answer the phone-avoid at all costs!!!!
